Ronnie M. Reed, age 83, died on Sunday, February 16, 2020 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma after a brief illness. From his birth in Beggs, Oklahoma on October 16, 1936 to his death on Sunday he was a servant leader who gave freely of his time and energy to his family and the community. He was born to Ray and Edna Earle (Williams) Reed and was the youngest of three boys. Ronnie worked alongside his brothers in the family grocery store in Sapulpa and was an excellent swimmer and diver. He was an avid bass fisherman from an early age and continued fishing his entire life. After graduating from Sapulpa High School in 1955, he attended Oklahoma State University and Northeastern State University and studied psychology. Ronnie was a reservist in the U.S. Air Force and was called to active duty stateside during the Vietnam Conflict. It was a mutual interest in boating and a love of the lake that first attracted Ronnie to his soulmate, Paulette Sikes, also of Sapulpa. Ronnie and Paulette married on December 21, 1962 in Sapulpa at the First Baptist Church. Ronnie was a career employee of Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company and ascended to the role of District Manager until his retirement in 1994 after 26 years of service. Ronnie served as District Manager for the southeastern Oklahoma district in both the Sulphur, Oklahoma and Durant Oklahoma district offices and had a genuine love for his employees and customers. Ronnie was very active in the communities where he served and always volunteered or was asked to perform key management roles including, among others, serving as President of both the Sulphur and Durant Chambers of Commerce, Director of the Kiwanis Club in both cities, President of the Red River Arts Council, and President of the Lake Country Board. Ronnie was the Durant Citizen of the Year in 1990 and served on countless other boards and committees. Ronnie achieved the status of 32nd degree Mason and was a Shriner. Ronnie was preceded in death by Paulette who passed away from cancer in August of 2000 at the age of 55. Ronnie never remarried. Also left to honor Ronnie and remember his love and leadership are his two children, daughter Jennifer Reed Poole (and husband Tracy Poole) of Bixby, Oklahoma and son David Reed of West Palm Beach, Florida; two grandchildren; Raegan Poole and Erin Warren; two great-grandchildren: Kloe and Cooper Warren; brother, Morris Reed (and wife Darla) of Sapulpa; and many nieces and cousins. Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents and brother Bud Reed. Ronnie will be remembered as a bright, shining light by his family and friends and in the various communities he served. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 2:00pm at Faith Baptist Church, 7100 East Hwy 117 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 20 at the Smith Funeral Home, 1208 S. Main Street, Sapulpa, OK. Memorials may be made in Ronnie’s name to the Tulsa Chapter of the American Heart Association.
