Ricky Moss

Ricky Lynn Moss, 59, of Claremore, OK was born on August 8, 1963, in Sapulpa, OK. Rick passed away at his home on Sunday evening, Mar 19, 2023.

He attended Robertson Elementary School in Tulsa until his family moved out in the country south of Tulsa when he was 9. For a short time, he and his brother continued attending Tulsa schools using their grandparent’s home as an “outpost” where their mother would drop them off on her way to work and pick them up on her way home, but later attended Beggs Schools where they had moved. When Ricky was 13 his dad’s employer moved to Claremore which resulted in a move to Verdigris. There, Ricky made many friends at both Verdigris Schools as well as Verdigris A/G Church.

Rick chose to attend Catoosa HS where he made many lifelong friends. He worked at Don Cooper Texaco in Catoosa for many years and continued the many friendships which he valued so much. Rick’s “bank account” was in number of friends, not money. After working at the gas station, Rick transitioned to truck driving, a career he would continue until his health disallowed. Any truck owner he drove for would tell you he was the smoothest driver they had ever known and “easy” on the truck which made for a more profitable operation given tires, brakes and about everything lasted longer if he was the driver.

Summers almost always included a trip to or a visit from cousins Cindy, Jimmy, Julie, and later CJ.

Rick and his brother received guitars for Christmas when they were about 6 and 7 years old. His brother picked at his for a day or two and had no interest after that, but Rick went on to learn to play many string and brass instruments. For several years, he was able to play about any instrument he picked up and had a few hours with. He developed into what many have described as a world-class bass guitarist and was routinely asked to do studio work due to his “precision”. Rick had many other interests including guns, knives, and several motorcycles-scooters throughout the years, but his passion and common themes throughout his life were his love for God and his family and friends.

On April 14, 2008, Rick married Penny Cash Moss. They lived in Verdigris most of their time together but had a short time in Okmulgee. Rick didn’t have children but viewed his niece Victoria as his little girl.

Rick was preceded in death by his mother Carol Anne Moss.

He is survived by his wife Penny Cash Moss, father Alvin Moss, and brother Randall Moss (wife Sharon).
