Richard “Dick” Burch Haulenbeek
Richard Burch Haulenbeek, 79, of Norman, OK, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2022 in Southeast Oklahoma City, OK.
Dick was born December 11, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Robert and Priscilla Haulenbeek. As children, he and his twin brother Rod raised goats on their family farm in Pluckemin, New Jersey. After high school, Dick attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. While there, Dick enjoyed working at the college radio station. After completing his degree in Journalism, he enlisted in the Army and served two tours in Vietnam. Upon his return, he returned to school and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. After college he began his career as an Electrical Engineer.
After retiring, Dick was very active in civic activities, including being a Census taker, but he was passionate about working on his local election board. He enjoyed traveling to see family and friends whenever possible, but he planned his travel and family visits around the election cycles.
Dick had a large and loving extended family and circle of friends. No matter the family event, he was there to enjoy the festivities. He was also the keeper of the family genealogy. As such, he compiled data and photos of every member of the family and maintained a family history electronic database. Dick was constantly working on computers and provided computer technical support for family members, friends, and even strangers. He was always there to answer a technical question or solve a problem and loved being the one people called for computer help. He was generous with his time and attention.
Dick will be especially missed for his great stories. He loved to tell stories about his youth and all his adventures. He had a wonderful sense of humor. Dick was loved by many and will be missed by all.
He is survived by siblings, Patricia Anne (Mark) Hare and Roderick Beazley (Jeanne) Haulenbeek; sister-in-law, Beckey Haulenbeek; nephews, Glen (Chantell) Haulenbeek, Robert (Emilie) Haulenbeek, and John Dagg; nieces, Kimberly (Steve) Dowling, Amber (Jon) Keller, and Beth (Adam) Williams; great nephews, great nieces and cousins, and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Priscilla Haulenbeek, and brother, Robert Haulenbeek, Jr.
