Obituary

Reuben Harjo, Sr., 79 of Sapulpa stepped into Heaven on November 14, 2020 in St. Johns, Tulsa, surrounded by his family.

Reuben Harjo, Sr. was born on April 16, 1941 in Henryetta, OK to Betty Tiger and Jesse Harjo.  He attended Ryal Public Schools.  Reuben did not graduate, he instead joined the workforce to help support his family.  He retired from Ashland Chemicals in Tulsa.  Reuben liked to go to the community centers Bingos, working on vehicles. He was the family mechanic!

Reuben loved being with family ant cookouts, for birthdays, holidays or just quick visits.

Grandpa started out as a truck driver delivering here and there in the US.  He worked his way up the ladder and learned the chemicals.. He became a Chemical Enginereer and supervisor with only anb 8th grade education.  Grandpa meet his wife Nettie and they had four kids together; Wynona, Gary, Reuben Jr. and Scotty.  Their time was cut short by illness.  Grandpa raised all 4 kids on his own and worked hard to provide for them.  Grandpa met Grandma Emma and they had 35 years together and grandpa gained 5 more kids, who he treated as his own: Billie, Wilbur, Donald “Chuggy”, J.A., and Sandra.  Together they lived an eventful life, always on the go.  The kids and grandkids made sure they were happy, as grandpa always made sure everyone was well taken care of, if he could help, he would.

Grandpa’s last few years were busy with all kinds of places and adventures with his grandsons.  He enjoyed watching all his grandkids, just be kids.  Grandpa also enjoyed fishing, going to sporting events, gardening and going to yard sales, to buy stuff, “He Don’t need.” He’d say.

Grandpa is survived by his mother, Betty Jacobs,  kids; Reuben Harjo, Jr., Scotty Harjo & wife Mary, Wynona Harjo and Darryl Tate, Gary and Kim Harjo, Wilbur Lunsford, Donald Lunsford, Jr. Alexande;, sister, Irene Jacobs and a host of grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
