Phil E. Whinery 82, of Sapulpa and Kellyville stepped into heaven on May 29, 2022.
Phil was born on January 14, 1940 in Ripley, Ok to Lloyd and Muriel.
He graduated from Sapulpa High School with the class of ‘58. He was employed in the auto service industry for many years until becoming a very talented cook and was employed by various restaurants and the casino.
Phil met and married Sara Felix. He was a member of Pickett Chapel UMC. Phil served as a lay minister for Choska and Muteluke churches until he suffered a stroke in 2010. He continued to minister to individuals, in his own way, during his residence at Rainbow Nursing Home in Bristow.
During Phils younger years he was involved in many sport activities involving his own children and many others. All the refs and umps knew who he was. He was also involved with the JOM program at Kellyville schools.
Phil was a talented singer. All enjoyed this talent, even the residents at Rainbow at 3 or 4 in the morning. He could sing the native hymns at church as well or better than some. He was not native by blood but was definitely an honorary member.
Phil had a caring heart and was always willing to help. Even while in a wheelchair, he would attempt to help others at the nursing home.
Phil is survived by Sara (Felix) Whinery, his children; Stephanie Cook, Cheryl Secrist (Mark), Phillip and Patrick. 11 grandchildren and 5 greats.
His sisters; Anna Jo Harvey, Kay Dickens and Glenda Glenn.
