Obituary

Opal Christine Lawson 89, passed from this life May 19, 2020 at Green Tree Assisted Living.

 

Opal was born August 10, 1930 in Fort Gibson, Ok. to Fannie and Earl Church. She was a graduate of Webster High School, Class of 1948.

 

She married Martell “Red” Scott on February 8, 1950. They had four children and moved to Mounds in 1961 where they lived together until his death in 1988.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Red Scott, her mother Fannie Holman Church, her father D.E. Church. Her sisters, Aline Nance, Lahoma Vance, Shirley Emery, Jessie Bynum and her brothers Herbert Church and Brad Church.

 

Opal was a strong woman of faith. She attended Truth Church in Kiefer, Oklahoma and gave tirelessly of her time and support. She had a caring and compassionate heart and was always willing to give a helping hand.

 

She met and married Leroy Lawson from California in December of 1996 and welcomed his daughters, Barbara Lawson, Diane Lawson, Terry Lawson and their children into the family.

 

She is survived by her husband, Leroy Lawson, daughter Glenda Birdsong and husband Mike of Mounds, Ok. Sons, Steve Scott and wife Lisa of Cookson, Ok. Stan Scott and wife Wanda of Tulsa, Ok. and Stewart Scott of Mounds, Ok.

Several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

 

Services, due to Covid-19, will be family only under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
