Long time Sapulpa resident and window clerk at the Sapulpa post office, Melvin Eugene Schultz, left this earth to be with his Lord on December 23. 2022 at the age of 96. Melvin was born on October 23, 1926, in Meno, OK to Walter and Anna Pjesky Schultz.
He will be reunited with the love of his life, Dorothy Hobelman Schultz, on God’s golden shores after 64 years of marriage.
Melvin grew up on a farm near Billings, Oklahoma, where he was raised by his grandmother Katherine Jantz Schultz and Uncle Elbert Schultz after his mother passed away when he was 18 months old.
Growing up on a farm in the depression years was no bed of roses. Times were hard and Melvin faced many hardships. He graduated from Billings High School in May of 1945 and a week later was inducted into the U.S. Army. After serving two years in the military, he returned to the Billings farm where he and his uncle Irvin operated a dairy and poultry business.
In August of 1950, he married the love of his life and in August of 1951, moved to Sapulpa where they settled down and raised a family.
Melvin and family were well thought of among relatives and friends. He believed in treating others as he would like to be treated. He loved life and never met a stranger. Melvin was a hard worker. Through the years he was employed with the railroad, aircraft, and trucking industries. In February of 1962, he was employed by the U.S. Postal service in Sapulpa and retired after 29 years of service. Just before retiring he obtained his real estate license, along with being in the rental business and pursued that until a few years before his death.
His church and his family were his life. He joined Ridgeway Baptist Church, now Foundation Church, in December of 1954 until his passing. He was an ordained Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, on the Board of Trustees and served in other places of leadership.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hobelman Schultz; parents; stepmother, Lillie Unruh Schultz; sister, Virgie Kay Moody; stepbrother, Norman Unruh; stepsister, Connie Brocco.
He is survived by his three sons, Charles Schultz and wife, Terry of San Antonio, TX, their children Calvin Schultz and wife Amanda of Stillwater; their four children Lilli, Emma, Wyatt and Will; Amy Pummel and husband Jeremy and their children London, Lila and Griffin, all of Portland, OR; Heather Rasco and her children Korbyn and Gabriell of Snyder, OK; Philip Schultz and his wife Katie of Sapulpa, OK and their children, Sarah and Rebecca; John Schultz of Sapulpa, OK, Byron Schultz and wife Kelsey of Sapulpa, OK.; daughter, Tiffany Quinton and husband Scott, their daughter Callie and sons Jade and Jordan; brothers David and Dan Schultz of Enid, OK and a host of relatives and friends.
