Obituary

Mary Ann Hefner passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at the home of her daughter, Beth Ann Simmons.
Mary Ann was born at home in Sapulpa, OK, on October 25, 1938 to parents Clarsie Elizabeth Mayes Smith and Steven J Smith. She was raised in Sapulpa and lived here the majority of her life. She answered the calling on her life and went to nursing school. She started her nursing career working for the VA and served in many areas, but her longest career was in labor and delivery. She served as charge nurse and house supervisor at Bartlett Hospital in Sapulpa for many years, before eventually moving to Doctors Hospital in Tulsa, where she worked in the NICU. Mary Ann said she loved the NICU so much that had it been available when she first started nursing, she would never have worked anywhere else.
In June 1961, Mary Ann married Billy Glen Hefner in Muskogee, OK. Together they raised three children: Lisa Gail Hefner, Steven Glenn Hefner, and Beth Ann Hefner Simmons(Kurt). She is survived by her three children; by three grandchildren - Heather Simmons Hudson (Casey), Mason William Hefner Skinner (MacKenzie), and Dylan Kurt Simmons (Stephanie); and five great-grandchildren - Jaxon Brake Simmons, Kason Hudson, Ryker Hudson, Liam Skinner, and baby Simmons arriving in October. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and great nieces/nephews who also had her heart.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, brother Bill Smith, sister Louise Smith Harrington, and niece Terry Gwen Brumfield.
