Leonard Hancel Carter 91, of Sapulpa, went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2021 at Hillcrest surrounded by his family.
Leonard was born May 20, 1929 in Cameron to Denton Carter and Minnie Carter. He was employed for nine years as a truck driver and then as a maintenance worker for Bartlett Memorial Hospital where he retired after 14 years.
Leonard faithfully served his country in the United States Army, serving at the end of World War II.
Leonard met and married the love of his life Marcine Carter. In February 2019 they celebrated 73 years of marriage. Before becoming homebound, he attended Westside Freewill Baptist Church where he served as an usher.
For everyone who knew Leonard, they know how much he enjoyed gardening, farming and spending time with his family.
He had a caring and compassionate heart and was always willing to give a helping hand. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife Marcine Carter. Children, Emaline Gibson and husband Kenny of Mounds, Carol Kidd of Sapulpa, Rick Carter and wife Maria of Sapulpa. Grandchildren Lisa Wahnee and husband Steve of Morris, Steve Gibson of Mounds, Brian Carter and wife Katina of Kellyville. Great grandchildren Kealey Gibson of Mounds, Dakota Gibson of Sapulpa, Brandyn Wahnee of Morris, Jessica Burton and husband Mackenzie of Morris, Matthew Carter of Kellyville. Great-great grandchildren Graison and Abaline Carter of Kellyville. And a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Brian Carter, Matthew Carter, Brandyn Wahnee, Steven Wahnee, Gary Schmolze, Charles Skaggs, and Steve Gibson.
Funeral services have been set for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Smith’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm, Lenna Cemetery. Smith Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
