John Norton McKelvey, of Sand Springs went to be with the Lord on December 27th, 2020.
He was born on April 10, 1941 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Willis Homer and Pauline (Polston) McKelvey.
John met the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Young, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He told a lot of stories of the way they met, from Elizbeth being a go-go dancer, dancing on the wings of planes, to her holding signs for wrestling matches, and so many other great romances.
The truth is that they met through mutual friends, and immediately hit it off. At the time of their meeting, John worked at the Admiral Twin movie theater, and the two of them loved to go and see movies together. On June 29, 1962, John and Elizabeth united in marriage. He began working at Public Services of Oklahoma (PSO) March 1st 1965 and retired May 30th 1998 after 33 years of service.
On March 6th 1968 they welcomed their first child, Larry Wayne McKelvey and on September 14th 1972 they welcomed their second child, Billy Joe McKelvey. In 1973 they settled down in Mounds, Oklahoma and built their lives together.
John enjoyed spending time with Elizabeth, and going on camping trips all over the United States with friends and family. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren –making a lot of wonderful memories telling various opposing stories about how he met their grandma Liz, cheating at board games, and generally being silly together.
John is survived by his wife Elizabeth Ann McKelvey; their two sons Larry Wayne McKelvey and Billy Joe McKelvey Sr. and wife Lynnette; Nine grandchildren, Jessicca Lorraine Williams-McKelvey and her husband Scott, Erin Elizabeth Bitting and her husband Taylor, Kayla McKelvey, Billy Joe McKelvey Jr., Krista Denise McKelvey, Hannah Jo McKelvey, and Faith Nicole McKelvey; As well as, two siblings Kay McKelvey and Harriett Smith.
John is preceded in death by his parents Willis Homer McKelvey and Pauline Polston; and three siblings Norris “Mac” Homer McKelvey, Billy Joe McKelvey, and Jimmie Willis “JW” McKelvey. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is loved by many and will be dearly missed.
