Our community sadly lost a beloved member on August 29, 2022. Jeanne Kay Scott (“Miss D”) was the heart and soul of Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She taught speech, debate, and drama at Sapulpa High School for 40 years. She will leave a big gap in our community and will be sorely missed.
Jeanne was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on July 28, 1944, to Agnes Irene and George Calvin Burger. She relocated at a young age to Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Nathan Hale High School. She received a BA in Education from SE Oklahoma State University. She was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Jo Wisner; her brother-in-law, Charles M. Wisner; her stepson, Stanley Scott; and her beloved husband, (Coach) John Bruce Scott. John Scott was also an extremely influential and popular local celebrity.
Mrs. Scott is survived by nephew Mark Charles and his wife, Cathi Wisner of Wichita, KS; great niece Alyssa Wisner, great nephew Andrew Wisner, and their mother, Sharon Wisner of Wichita, KS; nephew Keith William Wisner and Trouvee Belle Wisner of Nashville, TN. Locally Mrs. Scott is survived by Taylor Scott and her child, Stanley John Santillon; Peyton Scott and her children, Allicyn Scott and Presley Holland; Beth Scott; Steve Scott, Jake Campbell, and Justin Scott.
Her life will be celebrated at the First Presbyterian Church in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 10am. A reception will follow at Oaks Country Club from 11:30am to 3:30pm. Services are under the direction of the First Presbyterian Church in Sapulpa, OK.
The family and debate community have created a local memorial fund to benefit the Sapulpa High School speech and debate department. Those interested in contributing should make checks payable to: The Jeanne DeVilliers Scott Memorial Fund and mailed to: The Law Offices of David R. Widdoes, PLLC, Post Office Box 731, Sapulpa, Oklahoma 74067. All funds received will be deposited and maintained in the firm’s trust account until an appropriate endowment is established.
