Ellis August Jones, 80 of Sapulpa, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family, on September 3rd, 2021. He was cared for at St. John’s hospital. He received the very best of care they could provide. He was diagnosed with covid pneumonia and multi organ failure. They provided him very much comfort and he was peaceful in his transition to heaven and the family is forever grateful for their care.
Ellis was born August 26, 1941, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to George Edward Jones and Katy Ezora Jones. He was the youngest of 8 siblings. He was born at home on the land he lived on his whole life. His family was known for farming the land and farm-raised meats. The family paid the doctor for his home childbirth visit with smoked ham and vegetables at the doctor’s request. In fact, his wife of 50 years, Janice, told her family that she decided to marry him because she knew that he would always be able to feed and care for her. This marriage grew into a heart bond and companionship so great they could hardly bear to be apart for a moment. Janice passed away almost 2 years ago and she was there to greet him into heaven.
Ellis worked the family farm in his early life. The family used draft horses to plow the land and planted crops. They also raised cattle and pigs. Ellis was a cattleman, a roper, and a bull rider. He was quite the horseman. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren with their horses. Ellis also worked on the oil fields and at Farmers feed store in Sapulpa. Later in life, he and Janice worked overnight shifts at the Sand Springs Wal-mart for 10 years. Whatever he did, he did it faithfully and diligently and was always a shining example of honesty and hard work.
Having the heart of a farmer, he enjoyed gardening all the way up to his last days on earth. He would be up early tending the garden and watering at sunrise. His other great joy was spending time with his son and daughter and his beloved grandchildren, they were his heart. He never missed a chance to buy them a toy or their favorite chocolate.
He was so dearly loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Although earth has suffered a great loss, heaven has gained a beautiful soul.
He is survived by his son Ellis Jones (Frank), daughter, Lisa Phipps, son in law, Bruce, daughter in law, Katy and his grandchildren, Reagan, Isabel, Chloe, and Justice, and his devoted little dog Isabella whom Justice has taken great importance of looking after.
His family thanks you tremendously for your support and care during this time of loss. The flowers, meals, and cards have meant so much to his family. Some have asked about what he would want in memory of him. Ellis and Janice were supporters of the wounded warrior project and St. Judes children’s hospital.
We love you Pampa
