Obituary

Eleanor Maxine Stice, loving mother and adoring grandmother, passed from this life on Sunday, January 22, 2023, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Maxine, Mom and MomMom were the names she answered to most by all who knew and loved her.

Maxine was born on March 19, 1941, in Edna, Oklahoma and grew up surrounded by family, having 13 brothers and sisters. In a farming family that large, Maxine learned that caring for each other was the ultimate expression of love. Her parents, John A. Shelton and Mamie Amanda Pullen, worked hard to provide for their family and it was their steadfast dedication to servanthood that surely influenced the generous and caring woman Maxine came to be.

Caregiving was the path that led her to meet her husband Bob Stice Sr., of Slick, Oklahoma, in 1959, when she went to deliver food to the single father of three young children. They fell in love, married and Maxine took on the role of instant mother to the children, Glen Dale Stice, Donna Stice Broughton and Barbra Stice Broughton, loving them always as her own. Soon the couple welcomed two more children, Bobby Stice Jr. and Linda Sue Stice Lantz.

Bob and Maxine moved their family of seven to Kiefer, Oklahoma, where they ran a cattle ranch and Maxine opened a beauty shop attached to their home. Maxine cut, curled, combed and styled hair from her home beauty shop for more than 50 years. She even continued to work while caring for her beloved Bob while he underwent years of severe diabetes, kidney dialysis and double amputation of his legs. Her servant heart kept up with Bob’s round the clock care until his ultimate passing in 1999.

Throughout her life, Maxine poured her energy into caring for others and nowhere was this more evident than the constant love she showed her 11 grandchildren, Kiley, Brandi, Tommy Dale, Chrisy, Shawna, Amy, Jake, Justin, Carla, Larry and Lori. This affection was later second only to her pure adoration of her 17 great-grandchildren.

Maxine was a fierce lover of the written word and read at least one book each week for much of her late life. She was a skilled writer and poet as well, though she believed the beauty of the world could never be quite captured with words…however, she intended to try.

A memorial service to celebrate Maxine’s beautiful 81 years of life will be held Thursday, January 26, 2023, at 2pm at Harvard Avenue Christian Church, 5502 S Harvard Ave, Tulsa, OK 74135.
