Christe Jo Walkup Choate

Christe Jo Walkup Choate was born on August 16th, 1957, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, and passed away Friday, April 14th, 2023, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

Christe was the daughter of William and Joann Walkup and was raised in Sapulpa.  She attended and graduated from Sapulpa Public Schools in 1975. She continued her education, becoming a nurse. During her career, she worked for many doctors and served at Bartlett Regional, Tulsa Regional, St. John Hospital, Doctor’s Hospital and St. Francis Hospital.

In 1977, she was blessed with the birth of her first son, William Jonathan Samuel Walkup. In 1980, she was blessed again with the birth of her daughter, Jennifer Lynn Choate, from her marriage to Clinton Choate.

While growing up, Christe was always fond of spending summers in the country with her family and cherished the many memories, laughs and outings with her aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was a huge Elvis fan and while on a vacation with Clinton, on their way back from the Talladega Raceway, she was able to attain one of her dreams and went to Memphis to see Graceland.

After she retired, she became an inventor of several medical products and started two companies that helped thousands of people. She then went on to volunteer with the CASA Organization for more than 10 years and served on the Board.  She touched lives and influenced many. While with this organization she worked with many members of the community. The Christmas Parade was part of her favorite and she was instrumental in organizing volunteers and donors for CASA with their “Playhouse Raffle Fundraiser.” 

Christe was known to send cards to friends and family, to say hi, get well or for holidays and birthdays. She will be missed by many and will be remembered for her big smile and her willingness to help others.

Christe was preceded in death by her son William Jonathan Samuel Walkup, her father, Bill Walkup, her mother Joann Walkup, her brother Samuel Clinton Walkup.

She is survived by daughter, Jennifer.  Other survivors; brother David Mark Walkup (Eneida), sister Cheryl Hudgins (Lonnie), Sister Claudia Smith (Bill), grand-daughter, Mackenzie Walkup and her mother Amy Walkup. Also, many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
