History of Smith Funeral Home

The original Funeral Home building

A Sapulpa tradition continues to serve area families with caring and compassion.

The Smith Funeral Home is now going into the third generation of family operation. In February 1952 Wesley and Ozelle Smith purchased the Buffington Funeral, which was established in 1898, from the Buffington family.

Then, in 1996, Leona Smith Tyler and Rex Whitetree purchased the funeral home from Tyler's parents.

In November 2000, Tim Tyler rejoined the staff after graduating from Dallas Mortuary Institute and receiving his embalmer and funeral director licenses from the State of Oklahoma.

Both Whitetree and Leona Tyler are long-time Sapulpa residents. Whitetree is the parent of Todd Whitetree, Amy Wilson and Erin Brook. Leona Tyler and her husband Denny are the parents of Denise Collins, Tammy Allen, Tim Tyler and Derrick Tyler.

The funeral home is staffed by caring people who are always ready to help families through the most difficult time of their lives.

We feel this profession is a very special ministry and that it is a special time to help people. Our motto, "Special Personal Care," is what we always strive to give. We very much appreciate the trust of the families we serve.
